Mount Allison University has received a $40,000 grant that will help make the campus a bit more accessible.
The $40,000 accessibility grant, awarded from the Rick Hansen Foundation, will be used to install ACA-compliant door-opening mechanisms in several areas on campus.
University president Ian Sutherland said these funds will help accelerate important work to improve accessibility across campus
“Accessibility is a key part of Mount Allison’s mission and guides how we approach campus development and renewal,” said Sutherland. “This funding allows us to move forward quickly on upgrades that will make a meaningful difference on our campus.”
The project will support the installation of the door-opening mechanisms in the Wallace McCain Student Centre, including the Meighen Centre, fitness centre, student life (second floor), and the MASU office. A similar upgrade was recently completed at the wellness centre. Installation is expected to be completed this summer.
The RBC Barrier Buster Grants Program was created in honour of the 40th anniversary of Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour, to assist municipalities, schools and community groups across the country with accessibility improvement projects that help remove barriers for people of all ages and abilities.
