(WEA-Warnings-Maritimes)

Most of the Maritimes remain under heat warnings.

Environment Canada has issued alerts for all of Nova Scotia and P-E-I, along with most of New Brunswick, except for the northwest area of the province.

Temperatures could reach as high as 33 degrees in some areas, with the humidex making it feel like 39 degrees in parts of New Brunswick.

The warnings remain in place this morning and could continue into the weekend in some places.

(NB-Drug-Sentencing)

Two people have been sentenced after R-C-M-P seized more than a kilogram of fentanyl during linked drug trafficking investigations in Moncton.

Police say searches at two homes uncovered about 550-grams of fentanyl at one location and another 527-grams at a second address, along with cash, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

Two people were sentenced to nearly a decade of prison time, while both also received 10-year weapons prohibitions and were ordered to provide D-N-A samples.

R-C-M-P say the seizure and lengthy sentences reflect the seriousness of fentanyl trafficking in New Brunswick.

A Nova Scotia man is facing charges after allegedly stealing an A-T-V and trailer before fleeing from police.

R-C-M-P say they were called Wednesday morning about the stolen items being hauled by a truck near Musquodobit (mus-ka-DAW-bit) Harbour.

The driver was pulled over but police say he fled when told the reason for the stop.

Police followed and the driver abandoned the truck and fled into the woods.

He was later caught with help from a canine unit, a drone and tips from the public.

Halifax police say they have found the magazine containing firearm ammunition that was previously lost.

On Tuesday, police said the magazine was lost while officers were pursuing a robbery suspect on foot in Dartmouth, and they believe it fell from an officer’s equipment belt.

The police force say it was found yesterday afternoon in the area near where it was reported missing.

(Fish-Cancer)

Researchers tracking contagious catfish cancer in Quebec say they are testing to see if it also spread to New Brunswick.

University of Cambridge post-doctorate fellow Zoe Clarke says she took samples of brown bullhead catfish with dark spots in lakes up and down the Saint John River this past spring.

Clarke says she’s expecting lab results within weeks that could determine if the catfish have the same transmissible cancer found in the same species in a lake straddling Quebec and Vermont.

Scientists with the University of Vermont discovered brown bullhead catfish in Lake Memphremagog had melanoma.

(NL-ATV-Rescue)

Three men stranded in the woods in eastern Newfoundland have a local search and rescue team to thank for their safe return.

R-C-M-P say they got a call this week from a man who said his side-by-side vehicle had broken down in a wooded area near North Harbour.

The driver and two passengers weren’t hurt, but they couldn’t make it to find the road.

Police say members of the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue traversed the wet terrain in a tracked vehicle to find the men and bring them back to the road.
