Mount Allison science and commerce student Bentley Huffington is one of eight Atlantic Canadian students to receive a $50,000 Sobey’s Excellence in Business Studies award.

The regional entrepreneurship award for business students celebrates leadership, initiative and entrepreneurial promise, all of which Huffington demonstrated through her interdisciplinary university education, said a release from the university.

Huffington came to Mount Allison from Calgary, AB, wanting an education that allowed exploration of both science and business to reflect her interest in scientific inquiry, as well as communication, application and community impact.

Along with the award, she will participate in a mentorship program.

Throughout her time at Mount Allison, Huffington has kept busy as a teaching assistant across four departments and a research assistant across two, helping restructure Navigate MtA, and many other initiatives, including being on the planning team for the university’s strategic plan.

Huffington hopes to continue growing her freelance work while she builds her consulting business to support small organizations, start-ups and women-led ventures, with ambitions in international conservation and research.
